A Milan man has pleaded guilty to taking money from his dead mother’s social services benefits for more than 15 years.
According to the US Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, 76-year-old Richard Burke pleaded guilty on Wednesday to federal wire fraud charges.
From 2005 to 2022, Burke withdrew over $350,000 from his deceased mother’s social security retirement, survivors and disability benefits and Veterans Affair death benefits from her bank account.
Burke’s mother passed away in 2005. No other person was entitled to her benefits.
Burke never notified the Social Security Administration or Veterans Affairs that his mother died. He could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine.
