Two Brooklyn residents face charges after allegedly trying to scam a Steuben County resident out of $28,000.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office reported that 49-year-old Chengbin Lin and 48-year-old Linquing Chen remotely took control of a Tuscarora resident’s computer and then tried to scam them out of the money. The resident then contacted the sheriff’s office.
Lin and Chen were charged with the felony of attempted grand larceny in the third degree and criminal facilitation in the fourth degree.
Deputies also discovered that Lin and Chen were living in the country illegally and had been previously deported. They were turned over to federal agents.
