The Village of Spencer has approved a new local law creating a night-time curfew for anyone 15 years old or younger.
The law aims to reduce night-time crime, vandalism and property damage, while providing parents with clearer guidelines on when minors must be off the streets.
Under the new law, the weeknight curfew hours are 11 pm to 6 pm, Sunday through Thursday. Weekend curfew hours begin at midnight on Friday and Saturday and run through 6 am the next day.
Parents or guardians may also be held responsible if they allow a minor in their custody to violate curfew.
Penalties escalate with each incident, starting with a written warning and then a $50 fine on the second violation, and getting more expensive with each violation.
