The Johnson City Police Department has unveiled a new Soft Interview Room, marking a significant step in supporting victims of crime.
Developed in collaboration with the Broome County District Attorney’s Office and local advocacy groups, this specially designed space offers a calm and welcoming environment for victims and witnesses, particularly survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Unlike standard interview rooms, the setting features comfortable seating and peaceful colors to help reduce anxiety.
Funded through the New York State STRIVE Domestic Violence Grant, the initiative aims to foster open communication and promote healing while prioritizing compassion and dignity in the investigative process.
