The City of Binghamton has officially taken ownership of the Binghamton Plaza.

According to WBNG-TV, the plaza was previously owned by Galesi Realty Corporation. Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham said the transfer of ownership will give residents a voice in the property’s future.

Kraham said the four priorities for the site are demolishing the structure, expanding public access to the waterfront, expanding park space and adding amenities, and adding commercial redevelopment near the West State Street corridor.

The city has been in communication with the current tenants of the plaza at 33 West State Street. They will be able to continue operations without interruption for at least a few months.

The city will release more details in the near future.
