BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — A Binghamton man faces a potential life sentence after pleading guilty to murder in Broome County Court.
Prosecutors say 37-year-old Michael W. Brutvan will serve a minimum of 17 years to life in prison in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred in May 2025.
Police were called to the Salvation Army on Washington Street on May 13 for a reported stabbing. When officers arrived, they found a 57-year-old man suffering from stab wounds to the shoulder and neck.
The victim was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Authorities say the incident was not random, and that Brutvan and the victim knew each other.
Sentencing is scheduled for June 22 in Broome County Court.
