Four teenagers have been charged with attempted murder following an incident that left a 45-year-old man in critical condition on Monday.
According to Binghamton Police, the incident occurred at around 11 pm on Monday in the area of Carroll Street and Henry Street in Binghamton.
Officers responded to a report of a man unconscious on the sidewalk.
According to police, the victim was walking down Carroll Street at around 9:30 pm when he was allegedly approached by five teenagers and attacked.
Police said the victim was punched and kicked by the teenager, who then left the area on foot.
The victim was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
It appears the assault was related to a social media trend of recording attacks on homeless individuals or people addicted to drugs. The victim did not have a permanent address at the time of the assault.
Two 15-year-old males and two 14-year-old males were charged with attempted murder in the second degree. A 13-year-old suspect was released to his guardian with charges expected in the future.
