Binghamton Research Finds Memory Changes Can Begin by Midlife

New Binghamton University research suggests some memory processes begin declining by middle age. Researchers tested about 60 adults from ages 18 to 74 by asking them to remember faces paired with objects or scenes while an MRI tracked hippocampal activity. Accuracy dropped noticeably between adults in their 20s and 30s and participants in their 50s. The study’s authors say middle age may be an important transition point for memory and deserves more attention in brain research.
