New York’s Board of Regents has authorized the State Education Department to move toward one high school diploma and end prescribed Regents Exam passing scores as a separate graduation requirement. The change would begin with students graduating in 2028, while Regents Exams would continue as statewide measures and could support optional endorsements. The department expects to propose regulations by February 2027.
