Chemung County is receiving $1.4 million in federal funding for wastewater improvements at the Southern Tier Logistics Business Park in Horseheads. Senator Chuck Schumer says the Appalachian Regional Commission investment will support 4,500 feet of sewer main, along with other system improvements. The work is intended to expand capacity and support industrial and commercial redevelopment at the former military depot.

The project is called Sewer Improvement for Economic Growth. Schumer said the work includes constructing and rehabilitating sewer mains, adding manholes, building a modern pump station and restoring abandoned lines. The work is intended to improve reliability and environmental compliance for current and future employers at the former military depot. The announcement describes an award for infrastructure work, not a completed construction project.
