Matt Kenseth broke a 76 race drought and claimed the win in Saturday night’s Nascar Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway.
Kenseth had a dominating night; he led 169 of the 334 laps, but he needed a little help to win.
With about 60 laps to go, Tony Stewart appeared in good position to win, based on pit strategy, but Stewart was caught speeding on pit lane and was penalized.
Stewart ran out of gas on the last lap, indicating his pit stop was flawed in any event.
Clint Bowyer was second.
Kenseth has won 19 Sprint Cup races, but the most was recent was in California in February 2009. He’s been second at TMS four times since his last win there in 2002.
Roush Fenway, Kenseth’s team owner, had an outstanding night.
In addition to the win, Carl Edwards was 3rd, Greg Biffle 4th, and David Ragan 7th. Edwards also won the nationwide race on Friday night.
Kenseth took the lead with 13 laps to go, and with green flags the rest of the way, he was not in much danger of losing the lead.
Carl Edwards patrnered with Pepto Bismol for the race; he had a stomach problem from something he ate earlier in the day.
