A 51-year old Corning woman was charged Saturday with second degree murder in the death Saturday morning of a 100-year old man at his home in the City of Corning (Steuben County, west of Elmira).
Police said Brenda McKay killed Gerald C. Early by hitting him several times in the head with a hammer. By the time Early was found unconscious at this home and then transported by helicopter to the emergency room at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa., police said he had died from severe head injuries.
McKay and Early, who lived at 62 W. First St., were neighbors, according to police.
Corning city police, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police and the Steuben County District Attorney’s Office are involved in the on-going investigation.
Police have not disclosed a motive. The release of additional details is pending.
