A Guthrie doctor is sharing her family’s personal story in a pediatric COVID-19 vaccine trial.
The children of Dr. Andrea Worley, Pediatrics, Guthrie Corning Centerway participated in the Moderna KidCore COVID-19 vaccine trial.
In a press release provided by Guthrie, Worley explains, “My husband and I looked at the adult and adolescent data for the vaccine studies prior to making this decision; we as a family have not had COVID-19 and it is a high priority that we don’t get it or give it to others who may be at risk. This vaccine is a way to prevent that.”
The press release further states that Tanner and Sawyer, both age six, and Colton, age eight, had little to no side effects and were excited to be a part of science and history after learning about the “Polio Pioneers”, the children who took part in the trials for the polio vaccine.
To date, only one vaccine has been authorized for children under 12-years-old. On October 29, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized the emergency use of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19 to include children five through 11 years of age.
