Apalachin, N.Y. — The Apalachin Lions have announced three area high school seniors as the recipients of $3000.00 in scholarships awarded for outstanding contributions in service to their community and school. Receiving $1000.00 each, are Gavin Bowers of Owego Free Academy, Tyler Tebo from Vestal Senior High School, and Abby Goodrich, a homeschooler with Loving Education at Home (LEAH.)
Since 1989, the Apalachin Lions’ scholarship program has promoted and rewarded young people for their service to their community and school. Eligible students reside in the 13732, 13760 and 18830 zip codes which cover Apalachin plus Campville east to the Broome County line, as well as Little Meadows, Pa.
In addition to the scholarship program, the Apalachin Lions are active in the community with projects and activities such as the Santa phones and Christmas basket program, Easter egg hunt, highway cleanups twice a year, a back-to-school program, the sponsorship of a Special Olympics team–the Apalachin “A” team—as well as contributing to various local, state, and international causes.
