Apalachin, N.Y. — An Apalachin park received some needed attention thanks to the efforts of the Apalachin Lions Club.
On July 16, ten Apalachin Lions members gathered to renovate the Apalachin Lions Park at the western end of Main Street and Route 434. They removed three large broken tree branches caused by a previous snow storm, trimmed shrubs, and removed old creosote logs and supports. A new welcome sign currently being designed will be installed at a later date. The Town of Owego assisted the members by picking up three large piles of park debris along with a neighboring business owner who also agreed to take some of the debris. While at the park, Lions members also improved the Garden Club plot across Main Street, which they voluntary maintain.
Lion Paul Huonker directed the project, and the following Lions were involved: John Whiting, Gary Iacovazzi, Gerry and Mark Strazik, Rick Gray, Steve Brill, Bob Jensen, Pete Sylvester and Dick Tulsey.
