SPRINGFIELD – American Hockey League Board of Governors has approved the move of the Binghamton Devils, owned by the New Jersey Devils, from the Broome County Arena to Utica to play at the Adirondack Bank Center for the 2021-22 season.
By market size, the move puts the Devils in a market with roughly 40,000 more people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Binghamton metro area, which includes Tioga County, has a population of roughly 250,000 people. Utica’s metro area, which includes Rome, has a population of 291,000 people.
As if it matters to Binghamton fans, AHL officials also announced at it spring meeting last week that division alignments and schedules for the 2021-22 season, which will begin October 15, will be announced at a later date, basically a non-announcement.
