New York state trooper charged with assault in incident outside Dollar General store


On Monday, January 18, New York State Police arrested Paul M. Zandt, age 36, of Deposit, NY, for the misdemeanor of assault in the third degree, a class “A” misdemeanor. Zandt is a New York State Trooper in the Sidney troop, but was not on duty at the time of the incident.

The arrest stems from an investigation of an altercation that on Saturday, January 16, at Dollar General in the Town of Windsor. Zandt is accused of striking the victim in the face in the parking lot, then leaving the area. The victim, who was not identified by state police, was checked by medical persomel from Eastern Broome Ambulance, but was not transported to a hospital. The victim and Zandt did not know each other prior to the incident. Zandt was arrested and released on appearance tickets to Windsor town court on  January 25.
