FROM OWEGO APALACHIN SCHOOL DISTRICT: As we continue to plan for the upcoming school year, the district is looking for additional feedback regarding the potential time changes for the 2021-2022 school year schedule for our students.
We felt our initial survey, sent out a couple of weeks ago, did not sufficiently answer many of the questions necessary for parents to make an informed decision. Additionally, we heard that some parents wished to leave comments with the previous survey, and that option was not available. We do appreciate that feedback, and would like to hear more thoughts on this topic.
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts, as well as rate the thoughts of others, so we can continue to gain an understanding of how parents feel about this potential change.
The proposed changes are:
- Grades PK- 5 – New Proposed time: 7:30am-2:00pm *Free After School Care until 6pm
- Grades 6-12 – New Proposed time: 9:00am-3:30pm
Additional information:
Both elementary schools will offer a free after school enrichment/child care program that will consist of physical activity and innovative educational programs that will run daily from 2pm-6pm. Evening transportation will also be provided for those that are in need of it; Snacks will be included for each student. There will be no cap on the number of slots available at either Elementary School, and there will be a lot of flexibility if your need for after school care changes at any point during the school year. You are not locked in to any one choice for the entire school year. We understand that family schedules may change, and we will be able to accommodate that through out the year.
For Secondary Students, the later start time would allow more opportunity for on- and off-campus internships, morning work hours (both on- and off- campus) as well as give the older students, who tend to be up later for concerts, work, sporting events, etc… the option for more rest before their school day begins.
