The polls are open until 9:00 p.m. tonight for primary election voting in New York State. Democrats across the state will see 11 names on the primary ballot for their party’s nomination to run for president … all but one of those names is still relevant and former vice-president Joe Biden is expected to be the candidate in November’s election against Donald Trump, the only name on the statewide Republican primary ballot for president.
In other contests on today’s primary ballot, Republicans in the 22nd Congressional District will pick a candidate to run against incumbent Democrat Anthony Brindisi. Claudia Tenney, who held the office for one term before Brindisi unseated her in 2018, is running for the GOP nomination against long-time candidate George H. Phillips, a teacher at Seton Catholic and SUNY Broome. Tenney defeated Phillips in the 2016 Republican primary and then won the general election in November for her first two-year term.
For the state Assembly, Republicans in the 124th District will vote on a primary contest between Christopher Friend and RC Ike … Friend is the current assemblyman running for re-election.
Three candidates are on the Republican ballot in Candor to be the nominees to run in November for two seats as town justice.
The son of former long-time state Sen. Thomas Libous is running for the second time to in an attempt to win the Republican primary in the 122nd Assembly District, where 13-term Assemblyman Clifford Crouch decided to retire. Nick Libous needs to first defeat his Republican primary opponent Joseph Angelino, who was formerly police chief in Norwich.
