Binghamton Mayor Richard David will proclaim March as American Red Cross Month during a ceremony this morning at 10 o’clock at Binghamton City Hall. Mayor David will read a Red Cross Month proclamation and raise the Red Cross flag. He will be joined by Broome County Executive Jason Garner and several Red Cross representatives. The American Red Cross is recognizing the country’s everyday heroes during Red Cross Month. The Southern Tier Chapter is powered by more than 400 volunteer heroes who deliver help and hope year-round. Last year local volunteers helped 133 people recover after 84 local disasters; installed more than 1,100 free smoke alarms, provided 319 case services to military members, veterans and their families; and collected 17,543 blood donations. In addition to Broome County, the chapter serves Chenango, Tioga and Tompkins counties.
