An Athens High School graduate has been nominated to be the Navy’s top lawyer.
Marine Corps Major General David Bligh was nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as Judge Advocate General for the Navy.
Bligh, who is currently the Staff Judge Advocate to the Commandant of the Marine Corps, would become just the second Marine to hold the title of Judge Advocate General for the Navy.
The Athens graduate was commissioned into the Marines in 1988 through the Platoon Leaders Course following his graduation from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Bligh graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1997. He has previously served as Deputy Staff Judge Advocate to the commandant and as the Assistant Judge Advocate General of the Navy.
