California man accused of trying to steal nearly $3 million in tungsten oxide powder from GTP

A California man who allegedly attempted to steal nearly $3 million dollars worth of tungsten oxide powder from Global Tungsten and Powders last month is behind bars.

According to police, 31-year-old Deepak Kumar of Fresno has been charged with felony counts of theft by unlawful taking and criminal use of a communication facility.

He was arrested while traveling in a tractor-trailer on Interstate 70 in Indiana on June 28.

Kumar is accused of using fraudulent documents to obtain the 40,000-pound load of tungsten oxide powder, which was being shipped to Mitsubishi Materials in Japan.

He has been extradited to Pennsylvania and remanded to the Bradford County Jail on $200,000 bail.
