Former Dushore fire chief, wife killed in car accident on Route 220

A former Dushore Fire Chief and his wife were killed in a car accident on Route 220 on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Dushore Fire Department, Frank and Bonnie Yonkin were driving a vehicle when it collided head-on with a tri-axle dump truck at around 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

The accident occurred near the intersection of Route 220 and Harney Road between Dushore and New Albany.

The Yonkins passed away from their injuries following the accident.

Traffic was diverted around the scene using Wyalusing-New Albany Road, Wilmot Road and Route 87.

Here is a statement from the Dushore Fire Department on Chief  Yonkin and Bonnie:

“Chief Yonkin was a dedicated leader, mentor, friend, and veteran who gave countless years of service to the Dushore Fire Company and the community he cared so deeply about. Bonnie was a steadfast supporter of the department and a valued member of our fire family.

This is a tremendous loss for our department and our community. We ask that you keep the Yonkin family, our members, and all those affected in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.”
