An inmate at the Bradford County Jail has been sentenced to an addition 1 to 2 years in a state prison for the offense of retaliation against witnesses.
According to Bradford County District Attorney Richard Wilson, 32-year-old Stephen R. Benting was originally sentenced to a minimum of nine months in the Bradford County Correctional Facility and up to 23 months for the offense of Theft by Unlawful Taking.
He was sentenced in that case in October of 2023. At the time of his sentencing, in the Court of Common Pleas in that case, Benting began shouting at the Judge and other persons in the courtroom, including the victim in that theft case.
In addition to using profanity and an offensive gesture toward the sentencing judge, Benting threatened the victim, telling the victim, “You’re dead when I get out. I know where you live, and I know everything about you.”
The new sentence will be added to Benting’s original sentence, meaning his overall period of incarceration will be 21 months to a maximum of 47 months. Because of the new sentence, Benting will be housed in a state facility and not in the Bradford County Correctional Facility.
