New law requires Pennsylvania schools to accept cash at events

Fans of high school sports in Pennsylvania can once again use cash to pay for their tickets to postseason events.

A new state law, which was part of the recent budget deal, requires schools across the state to accept cash.

In recent years, the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association forced fans to purchase tickets to postseason events with credit or debit cards online or through an app. The cost for the ticket would also include an added processing fee.

While schools in the Northern Tier League accepted cash at regular season events, that was not the case in the District 4 or state playoffs.

The bill received bipartisan support in the Pennsylvania House and Senate before being signed by Gov. Josh Shapiro as part of the budget.
