Local organizations across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania are joining forces to bring the Red Sand Project to their communities, shedding light on individuals who fall through the cracks of society due to human trafficking, exploitation, and modern slavery.
On Wednesday, July 30th at 10 a.m., The Children’s House Child Advocacy Center (CHCAC) and the Abuse and Rape Crisis Center (ARCC) will host a Red Sand Project event outside the Bradford County Courthouse in Towanda, PA. This gathering is part of a statewide initiative involving Children’s Advocacy Centers and Rape Crisis Centers throughout Pennsylvania.
The event will feature a proclamation from county officials and remarks from local service providers, highlighting their efforts to prevent trafficking, support survivors, and strengthen community responses to exploitation. Following the speakers, attendees will receive packaged, non-toxic red sand to create sidewalk installations as a public art and awareness display.
What is the Red Sand Project?
Created by artist Molly Gochman, the Red Sand Project is an international participatory art initiative that uses sidewalk interventions and earthwork installations to raise awareness of human trafficking and modern-day slavery. The act of filling sidewalk cracks with red sand symbolizes the individuals who are often overlooked—those who “fall through the cracks.”
Local Social Media Campaign
A local social media campaign will run alongside the event. Participants are encouraged to photograph their red sand displays and share them using hashtag: #RedSandBradford
CHCAC and ARCC will highlight community posts to amplify the message and inspire broader engagement.

Statewide Collaboration
This Red Sand event is part of a broader, statewide campaign to raise awareness of human trafficking and exploitation. A joint ceremony will also take place at the Pennsylvania State Capitol in Harrisburg, organized by the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Pennsylvania (CAC-PA) and the Pennsylvania Coalition to Advance Respect (PCAR).
In addition to the Capitol event, Children’s Advocacy Centers and Rape Crisis Centers across the Commonwealth will be hosting local Red Sand events in their own communities, demonstrating a unified, statewide commitment to addressing exploitation, supporting survivors, and preventing trafficking through education, advocacy, and action.
