The community is mourning the loss of a local firefighter and a longtime Guthrie employee who passed away in the line of duty last week.
Roger Lathrop was responding to a structure fire for the Big Elm Volunteer Fire Company when he passed away from a medical emergency last Thursday.
Lathrop was also a rescue captain for Big Elm, which covers Jackson, Wells, Rutland and Roseville in Tioga County, Pa.
In addition to his service through the fire department, Lathrop worked for Guthrie since 1997, including in his most recent role as Chief Compliance Officer.
Lathrop also volunteered as a coach and umpire with the Troy and Wells-Jackson Little Leagues, and supported both music and sports booster clubs in the Troy School District.
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro has ordered all public buildings and state facilities in Tioga County to fly flags at half-staff until Lathrop’s burial.
