The continuous rains started causing flooding around the area last night, although it’s not coming from the river. It’s coming mostly from the saturated ground, caused by run-off from hills and streams.
Pennsylvania Avenue in Apalachin is reported to have had a few homes evacuated from rising and fast moving water.
Route 34 north of Waverly had one lane closed due to flooding. There were several people evacuated from their homes on Talmadge Hill Road. The American Red Cross opened a shelter at the Waverly Village Hall, on Ithaca Street in Waverly, for residents displaced following flooding Wednesday. Area residents affected by the flood are welcome to either stay at the shelter or stop by the facility, as volunteers provide food, water, comfort and support.
In Bradford County, Route 6 in Towanda was closed to traffic, and there were flooded homes as well.
