(Elmira, NY) – Elmira High School students recently had the opportunity to peruse racks of gowns and pick one for their upcoming prom in May. A group of Elmira women, led by Elmira Mom Tawana Grant, organized this dress giveaway at Elmira High School.
The group of women put out a call to the Elmira community, asking for donations towards their dress drive. Dozens of gowns and shoes were donated. The variety of styles, sizes and colors is impressive.
Tawana Grant, who started the project, says all students should be able to enjoy prom regardless of their financial circumstances. “This is just the beginning of making this happen each year for our Elmira students. I plan to continue this work in a new nonprofit called ‘Dress Me Up,” says Grant.
