Chemung Financial Corporation plans to unite Chemung Canal Trust Company and its Capital Bank and Canal Bank divisions under a single name: Canal Bank & Trust, N.A.
The Elmira-based company announced the change Thursday, Oct. 1. It said the new identity will begin appearing in 2027 across branches, digital channels and company communications. Customers do not need to take any action as the transition begins.
Chemung Financial said the announcement is a branding change, not a change in ownership, leadership or the bank’s community-banking mission. The company said account access, products and customer relationships will continue through the transition.
The organization has operated under several names across its footprint since 2011. Company leaders said moving to one name is intended to simplify the customer experience and strengthen recognition across the bank’s service area.
Chemung Canal traces its history to 1833. Chemung Financial Corporation is the bank’s publicly traded parent company and also oversees wealth-management services. The company reported about $2.8 billion in assets and 30 offices in New York and Pennsylvania when it announced the plan.
More details about branch signage and digital changes are expected as the 2027 rollout approaches. Until then, customers can continue using their existing accounts and services normally.
