Corning man facing charges after allegedly stealing car

A Corning man is facing charges after he allegedly stole a car and drove it while under the influence of drugs.

According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, 30-year-old Joseph W. Hannacker was arrested following an investigation into a report of a stolen vehicle from Corning.

Police said Hannacker failed to stop when deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop and he allegedly drove at speeds over 100 miles per hour and drove on a sidewalk in the village of Addison.

The chase ended when the car was disabled by OnStar staff.

Hannacker has been charged with felony counts of criminal possession of stolen property and criminal mischief as well as other related misdemeanors and traffic violations.

He was remanded to the Steuben County Jail on $5,000 cash bail.
