The deal that was reached between New York State and the Corrections Officers union will not go into effect after the 85 percent return-to-work mandate was not met on Monday morning.
The deal required striking officers to return to work by 6:45 a.m. on Monday.
According to WENY-TV, the state has started the termination process for 2,000 officers who did not return to work, but it is unclear how many will actually be fired.
The Department of Corrections did say they will honor the deal’s overtime rules and some other provisions.
