A Hornell man will spend over 30 years in state prison for violently shaking an infant in 2022.
According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, Robert Taft was sentenced on Monday to 15 years for one count of assault in the first degree and another 18 years for another count of assault in the first degree. Those sentences will be served consecutively.
Eyewitness testimony and evidence showed that Taft violently shook his daughter in October of 2022. The victim suffered a near fatal brain injury and has permanent brain damage from the incident.
Taft will also serve 10 years of post-release supervision following his release from state prison.
