A new “Welcome to Elmira” sign is in the works.

The current sign, which features famous Elmira natives including Mark Twain, Ernie Davis and Tommy Hilfiger, will soon be torn down with a new sign to take its place.

According to WENY-TV, the city will use money from the American Rescue Plan to put up the new sign.

Local company JH Design has been contracted to design and construct the new sign, which will reportedly not feature any names or faces.

There is no concrete timeline for the new sign, but the city is hoping to have it complete by this summer.
