The Newtown Battlefield State Park is getting a major boost from a federal grant.
The Town of Ashland has been awarded over $860,000 through a Battlefield Land Acquisition Grant from the National Park Service to preserve 322 aces of the Newtown Battlefield.
The town will use the grant to buy two properties and then transfer the land to New York state.
The Newtown Battlefield was the site of the Revolutionary War’s Battle of Newtown.
