The Elmira Fire Department will soon have a new leader.
Retired Deputy Fire Chief Tim Overly has been selected by the Chemung County Fire and Emergency Management agency to take over as fire chief. He will replace Chief Andrew Mallow, who recently announced his retirement.
Overly served in the department for 27 years before stepping away in 2022. He has also served as Deputy Fire Coordinator in Chemung County, an instructor with the New York Fire Academy, assistant chief for the Community Fire and Rescue Company and a firefighters with the Big Flats Fire Department.
Overly is expected to take over for Mallow later this month.
