Elmira man facing several charges following incident

A 28-year-old man is facing multiple charges after cars were damaged in Elmira on Tuesday.

According to Elmira Police, Christopher Z. Bailey was charged with attempted assault on a police officer, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, driving while intoxicated, unlawful fleeing from police and several traffic violations.

Officers were called to the 1000 block of Oak Street at around 10:37 pm on Tuesday for a reported disturbance involving a man with a gun. The suspect left the area in a Dodge Charger before officers arrived.

Officers spotted the Charger and attempted to pull it over. Bailey allegedly refused to pull over and struck a parked car and nearly hit occupied police vehicles. He was later taken into custody without incident.

The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office and Elmira Heights Police Department also responded to the incident. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
