An Elmira Police Officer has been arrested for allegedly releasing confidential information over the summer.
According to the Elmira Police Department and New York State Police, 26-year-old Shyonna Pacheco of Pine City has been charged with felony hindering prosecution in the second degree and misdemeanor counts of official misconduct and obstruction of governmental administration.
The charges stem from a tip to police back in July where Elmira Police were alerted that Pacheco provided confidential information to another person.
According to police, the information jeopardized an active investigation and place people who were involved in the investigation at risk.
Pacheco was suspended soon after the tip to police. Elmira Police contacted the state police to conduct an investigation into the incident.
Pacheco has been an Elmira Police Officer since 2023.
