The New York State Department of Transportation is proposing a major change to the part of State Route 14 known as the Miracle Mile.
The state is looking to change the roadway in Horseheads from four lanes to two lanes, while also adding bike lanes.
Chemung County Executive Chris Moss and Sheriff Bill Schrom wrote a letter to the Department of Transportation voicing their opposition to the plan.
In the letter, the county leaders said the addition of bike lanes to the Miracle Mile would be dangerous for area bicyclists.
They also stated that the change would increase congestion, especially during peak hours which would be due to reduced roadway capacity.
Moss is encouraging business owners or residents who travel the roadway on a regular basis to contact the New York State Department of Transportation with input at [email protected].
