Elmira man arrested for allegedly breaking into JCPenney in Big Flats

An Elmira man has been arrested after he allegedly broke into the JCPenney store in Big Flats.

According to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, 61-year-old Eric J. Williams allegedly used a large rock to break through the glass doors of the store and sustained a cut on his arm during the incident.

He was taken to the Arnot Ogden Medical Center to be treated and then arrested and charged with burglary in the third degree, a Class D felony, and criminal mischief in the third degree, a Class E felony.

The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Horseheads Police, West Elmira Police, Elmira Heights Police, the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit and the New York State Police.
