First responders save woman, dog who fell over embankment

Local first responders rescued a woman and her dog who had fallen over an embankment near a scenic overlook on Sheshequin Road south of Athens on Tuesday.

According to the Bradford County Department of Public Safety, the 911 call came in at around 11:30 a.m.. When first responders arrived, they determined that the embankment was steep and additional resources were requested.

A rope and technical operation was initiated and rescuers also went to the bottom of the embankment including a boat from the Ulster-Sheshequin Fire Department.

First responders descended the embankment and lowered the patient and her dog to awaiting rescue boats where she was transported to a boat launch and then to Robert Packer Hospital for evaluation. The dog was uninjured.

The Ulster-Shesehquin Fire Department and Ulster EMS were assisted by the Athens Borough Fire Department, Athens Township Fire Department, North Towanda Fire Department, Greater Valley Rescue, the Bradford County Drone Team and EMA 2 and 5.
