Rumors have been swirling about the possible closure of the Foundations Early Learning Center in Sayre.
Guthrie, which owns the property, provided a statement to Radigan Media on Thursday.
Here is the complete statement:
“As one of the largest employers in the region, we are acutely aware of the significant challenge of balancing work and family life, particularly in securing quality child care programs in our region.
Although Guthrie supported the development of Foundations Early Learning Center in 2021 to expand local access to early childhood education, the center is owned and operated by an independent, for-profit child care provider. That provider has notified us that they intend to transition out of this role and during this process Guthrie has remained supportive, including deferring rent collection.
Based on the current provider’s for-profit status, Guthrie, as a non-profit, is limited in the ways that we can continue to invest in the current business model. However, we are actively seeking a long-term solution with a non-profit organization that will own and manage child care operations in our building, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment for children’s growth and development.”
The child-care provider did not respond to a request for comment.
