A massive fire destroyed a historic church in downtown Elmira on Thursday night.
According to WENY-TV, the fire broke out at the former First Baptist Church at 121 West Church Street a little after 10 p.m.
The building was engulfed in flames within minutes. Firefighters from multiple departments were on scene fighting the blaze.
The church dates back to the 1890s. It last held services in 2009.
No further details have been released at this time.
