(East Smithfield, PA) – Asmodeus, affectionately known as Modey, came to the Animal Care Sanctuary, in western Bradford County, in the summer of 2021 from Best Friends Dog Rescue. He waited over 500 days for someone to take him home. Modey’s only hang up was that he feared strange people. Due to this underlying fear of strangers, Modey never had a successful meet where he didn’t try to nip at potential adopters. Although he warms up to new people rather quickly, nobody ever gave him a chance past the first impression. ACS knew what a heart of gold was lying under that fear and it was heartbreaking to see him fail.

Modey has a rare dog-to-dog style that we don’t see too often in the shelter. He can be hyper and playful with puppies and other energetic dogs, yet gentle and calm with shy or scared dogs. In fact, his best friend at ACS was a little Dachshund named Rocky. Modey would get down on his level and play so carefully with him. He knew Rocky didn’t like being crowded and would throw his body weight around to clear other dogs out of the way if he noticed Rocky was getting overwhelmed. The way he so diligently watched over his little friend melted our heart, and the sight of a 90-pound lab being silly with such a little dog was great to see.

ACS’s new Canine Care Specialist had the opportunity to provide a loving home for Modey and knew he was going to bust him out and finally take him home. Since he’s went home, he’s made friends with his fiancé, his parents, and their three other dogs. To no surprise, Modey’s new best friend is a Chihuahua/Pug. Since he has been given the space to meet new people responsibly and at his own pace, he has proven to warm up faster each time. Once Modey gives you his heart, you’ll have a loyal friend for life.
