(Athens, PA) – On Saturday, April 29, the new Athens G.R.I.P. Powerlifting Team traveled to Parkland High School in Allentown to participate at the PA State High School Powerlifting Championships. Five members of the club lifted in events of the Squat, Bench Press, and Deadlift.
Athens lifters competed against members from 15 other schools from across the state. A total of 214 high school atheletes competed at this year’s championship. Lifters are separated into JV and Varsity categories, as well as different bodyweight weight classes.
Members who represented the Athens G.R.I.P. Powerlifting Team were: Ashlyn VanFleet, Caleb Hunsinger, Landon McGrath, Treyvon Simpson and Allen Maggard. Every member of this team is new to powerlifting. The team members lifted very well and were impressive in their debut on the platform.
The following are the results for each lifter in their respective divisions: Ashlyn – 2nd Place; Caleb – 5th Place; Landon – 7th Place; Treyvon – 6th Place; and Allen – 6th Place.
Winners are determined by the heaviest successful attempt in each event, then combined for a Total versus the other competitors. The next event for the team will be May 21 in Jim Thorpe, Pa.
