(Towanda, PA) – A Sayre woman was found guilty by a Bradford County jury on Wednesday, May 17. Desiree D. Holmes, 30, was convicted of Simple Assault, a misdemeanor of the second degree.

The verdict follows an investigation by officers Nikki Hoffman and Casey Shiposh of the Sayre Borough Police Department on December 31, 2022. A victim reported that Holmes had bit him hard enough to draw blood in response to him trying to deescalate a domestic incident between Holmes and the victim’s brother, who also reported being assaulted by Holmes.

At trial, Holmes claimed she bit the victim in self-defense.

Holmes is scheduled to be sentenced by the Honorable Maureen T. Beirne on June 29, at 1:15 p.m. She faces a potential maximum of two years of incarceration and a potential maximum fine of $5,000. Holmes was acquitted of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and two other counts of Simple Assault relating to the victim’s brother.
