A retired New York State Police investigator and former member of a sex abuse task force was convicted of first-degree sexual abuse in Tompkins County Court. 61-year-old Randolph Stark was on trial for subjecting a woman to sexual conduct while she was physically helpless back on May 31st in the Town of Ulysses. Stark was arrested the next day on charges of first- and third-degree sexual abuse. Stark had pleaded not guilty to the charges. He worked undercover for five years while with the State Police, and has received multiple commendations for his work in the force, and even was named Investigator of the Year in 1994 and 1997, before serving on the Sex Abuse Task Force from 1997 to 2000. The case against Stark went to trial in January. A lesser charge of sexual abuse in the third degree was dismissed by the judge. Stark is scheduled to be sentenced on April 9th, and faces up to seven years in prison, and will be required to register as a sex offender.
