The Chenango County man accused of murder last week attended his first hearing in Chenango County Court on Monday. 29-year-old Kyle Whitfield, of Smithville, had his bail set at $150,000 cash or $300,000 in real property. Whitfield is facing a charge of second degree murder after he allegedly stabbed 33-year-old James Button Jr., of Greene, to death. Whitfield was sent back to the Chenango County Jail following the hearing.
