Heavy rain over the weekend and melting snow caused the Susquehanna River to rise yesterday, but the National Weather Service says nothing but minor flooding will take place in the Southern Tier. The hardest hit area was Conklin, where the river actually rose 7 inches above flood stage yesterday. Some roads were closed due to flooding, but no major impacts were reported. In Vestal, the river came close to flood stage, but did not overflow its banks. The same can be said downriver at monitoring locations in Owego, Waverly, and Towanda. The river levels are expected to decrease across the area today.
