U.S Senator Charles Schumer is calling for New York to have a standardized heroin database in order to fight the rising crime related to the drug. Schumer says that a database would be helpful to police as they could discover use patterns that could help crack drug rings, and data about heroin-related hospitalizations and overdoses could also be helpful to police. He wants the federal Office of National Drug Control Policy to work with law enforcement throughout the state to set up the information-sharing database, and is currently in the process of asking the office to create a blueprint for the database.
